Man Kicks Woman at Lucky Plaza After She Rejects His Offer of a Drink
A violent confrontation broke out at Lucky Plaza after a woman allegedly turned down a drink offered by a man, leading to a disturbing assault that was captured on video and circulated online.
The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of 8 February at the popular Orchard Road shopping centre. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the altercation unfolded on the sixth floor, an area known for housing several nightlife establishments. What began as a heated exchange quickly escalated into physical violence, drawing the attention of shoppers and shop owners in the vicinity.
Footage shared on social media shows a bald man trailing behind a woman before striking her twice. He then appears to reach for her shoulder as she attempts to walk away. Moments later, he kicks her from behind, causing her to crash onto her side. In the process, he also loses his balance and falls onto her legs.
Video Footage Sparks Public Outrage
A second clip, filmed from a different angle, reveals the woman clutching her right hip after the fall, visibly in pain. Despite her condition, the man allegedly attempts to kick her again but misses and stumbles.
The situation might have worsened if not for swift intervention from bystanders. A woman from a nearby shop is seen throwing a blue plastic basket towards the man in an effort to stop the attack. Shortly after, a male passer-by steps in and positions himself between the aggressor and the victim, effectively halting further violence.
The footage has since generated strong reactions online, with many netizens condemning the attack and calling for firm action. Public safety in shopping malls and nightlife areas has once again come under scrutiny, especially in high-traffic districts such as Orchard Road, where retail security and surveillance systems play a crucial role.
Suspect Believed to Be Intoxicated
A shop owner who witnessed the incident said the commotion began around 6pm or 7pm. She recalled hearing raised voices before seeing the pair engaged in a heated argument that steadily grew louder, attracting a crowd.
According to her, the man appeared unsteady and agitated, leading her to suspect that he had consumed alcohol. She claimed she overheard that he had offered to buy the woman a drink, which she declined. It was suggested that this rejection may have bruised his ego, triggering the aggressive behaviour.
The store owner also shared that she initially tried to defuse the situation as it was affecting her business operations. However, the man allegedly pushed her aside and insisted that he had “spent a lot of money” on the woman, telling her not to interfere.
Police were eventually alerted and intervened after the dispute, which reportedly lasted over 10 minutes.
Concerns Over Safety in Nightlife Zones
Several retailers on the same level noted that disputes are not uncommon in that part of the mall, given the concentration of pubs and entertainment outlets. However, they described this particular case as unusually serious.
The incident has reignited conversations about personal safety, alcohol-related violence and the need for stronger crowd control measures in mixed-use commercial properties. With shopping malls increasingly incorporating nightlife venues to boost retail revenue and commercial property value, questions are being raised about the balance between entertainment and public security.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding possible charges. Investigations are ongoing.
