Man, 64, arrested after fire at Kovan apartment, firefighter taken to hospital
A 64-year-old man has been arrested for suspected mischief by fire after a blaze broke out at a residential unit in Kovan on 2 March. The incident occurred at a third-floor apartment along 22 Sirat Road at about 4pm, according to the police.
In response to media queries, the authorities confirmed that they were alerted to the fire in the afternoon. The address corresponds to Vina Lodge, a private residential development in the area.
One firefighter sustained a minor burn injury during the operation and was later conveyed to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Fire contained after bedroom caught fire
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said three occupants of the affected unit evacuated safely before firefighters arrived at the scene. Upon reaching the apartment, responders discovered that a bedroom in the third-floor unit was on fire.
Firefighters deployed a water jet to extinguish the flames. During the firefighting efforts, one firefighter suffered a minor burn injury. An SCDF paramedic assessed him at the scene before he was transported to Singapore General Hospital for further treatment.
A video circulating on social media platform TikTok showed flames coming out of a window, with thick smoke rising into the sky. The footage appeared to capture the intensity of the blaze from outside the building.

The police have arrested a 64-year-old man in connection with the incident on suspicion of mischief by fire. Investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the fire.
