OIL & GAS COMPANY MAKE MAN COME DOWN 4 TIMES FOR INTERVIEW THEN REJECTS HIM

Walao eh, I seriously cannot with this Oil & Gas company. My blood pressure now higher than the oil prices, I swear.

You know where they are or not? Not even near the MRT. I have to take MRT to the end of the line, then wait for one shuttle bus that comes every 30 minutes, then walk under the blazing sun in my full long-sleeve shirt and tie. By the time I reach their lobby, I’m not a candidate already, I’m a steamed siew mai. My face all oily, my back all wet, and for what?

The “Siao” Interview Cycle

• 1st Interview: General chat. Okay, fine. Standard procedure.
• 2nd Interview: Technical test. I draw the P&ID diagram until so chio, even the engineer also nod head.
• 3rd Interview: Presentation to the HOD. I prepare slides until 2am, talk until my throat dry, and they tell me “Very impressive, we like your energy.”
• 4th Interview: They fly in some big shot from overseas. I think “Confirm plus chop, this is it, they want to sign contract already.” I even buy new shoes for this!

Then today, BAM! Reject email.

The Logic is Where?!

The HR tell me: “Actually, we decided to go with another candidate who has 15 years more experience.” OEH! HELLO?! You read my CV or not? You see his IC or not? You knew he was a lao jiao (veteran) since the first day he applied! If you want someone who was working since the 1990s, why you call me down FOUR TIMES? You think I am GrabFood delivery is it? You think I come there to see the scenery of your refinery towers and smell the sulphur for fun?

I have to take four days of leave. Four days! My boss already suspicious, thinking I got terminal illness because I keep going “clinic.” I use my precious annual leave to sit in your ulu office and talk to people who already decided they want someone older.

Pure Waste of Time

Really is basket behavior. In this economy, people are struggling, and you want to play masak-masak (play house) with my career. If you want a senior, hire a senior. Don’t go and bait the juniors and mid-levels just to “see what’s out there” or to fill your interview quota.

My transport money my dry cleaning bill for the suit… all gone down the drain. Next time I see their logo on LinkedIn, I’m going to report for “harassment” because they really harassed my soul.
