A 45-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening an auxiliary police officer with a knife near Geylang Serai Market late at night. The alarming incident, which occurred on Mar. 9, drew the attention of nearby members of the public who eventually helped restrain the suspect before police took him into custody.
Video footage circulating online shows part of the confrontation taking place near a traffic junction close to the bustling Geylang Bazaar area. The scene appeared to unfold while an officer was standing beside a red pedestrian traffic light.
According to initial reports shared online, the suspect approached the officer from behind while holding a long object that was later believed to be a knife. The situation escalated within seconds, prompting immediate resistance from the officer and concern among bystanders.
Suspect Approaches Officer From Behind

Dashcam footage posted on social media appears to capture the moment the man in a light blue shirt walked toward the officer from behind. As the traffic light changed, the suspect reportedly wrapped his arm around the officer and appeared to press the object against him.
The officer quickly reacted and struggled against the man as vehicles began moving through the junction. Although the footage only shows a brief portion of the altercation, it suggests that the officer attempted to break free while the confrontation unfolded on the roadside.
Shortly after the incident, additional images surfaced online showing the same man standing at a pedestrian crossing with his hands positioned behind his back. In those photos, he was surrounded by several officers who appeared to be escorting him away from the area.
Members Of The Public Help Subdue Suspect
Authorities later confirmed that police had received calls for assistance at around 9:50pm near Geylang Serai Market. Preliminary investigations indicated that the man had allegedly pointed a knife at a male auxiliary police officer during the incident.
Members of the public reportedly stepped in to help disarm and restrain the suspect before officers formally arrested him at the scene. The knife involved in the incident was seized as evidence for further investigation.
Emergency services were also called to the area later that night. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said they received a request for assistance along Sims Avenue and conveyed one person to Changi General Hospital.
Police investigations into the case are ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the confrontation. The incident has nevertheless sparked public discussion about safety and the quick response from both officers and bystanders who intervened.
