Woman and 2 Children Hospitalized After PMD Collision With Car in Hougang, Driver Arrested

A road accident in Hougang left a woman and two young children injured after a personal mobility device (PMD) collided with a car at a busy junction. The incident prompted emergency services to rush the injured to hospital while police arrested the driver involved in the crash.

The accident occurred at the junction of Hougang Avenue 8 and Hougang Street 61, drawing the attention of nearby residents and passers-by. Authorities later confirmed that the driver, a 54-year-old woman, had been arrested for reckless driving causing grievous hurt.

The injured individuals included a 30-year-old woman who was operating the PMD and two child passengers aged six and seven.

Loud Crash Heard As Accident Unfolds

Witnesses in the area reported hearing a loud noise shortly before discovering the aftermath of the collision. One witness, a 35-year-old man, said he had been at the ground floor of a nearby residential block when the sound caught his attention Shin Min Daily News reported.

When he turned to look, he saw the aftermath of the crash involving the PMD and a red car that had stopped along the roadside.

Members of the public quickly stepped in to help the injured individuals before emergency responders arrived. Bystanders reportedly provided first aid to the victims while waiting for paramedics.

Photos circulating from the scene showed the red car parked by the roadside while the PMD was seen nearby following the collision.

Children and Rider Taken to Hospital

The Singapore Civil Defence Force later transported the injured victims to hospital for medical treatment. All three individuals were conscious when they were conveyed by ambulance.

Two of the injured, believed to be the children, were taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further medical attention. The 30-year-old woman was transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Although the full extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of PMD riders and passengers sharing roads with motor vehicles.

Accidents involving personal mobility devices have been the subject of increasing public attention in Singapore, especially in residential neighbourhoods and near HDB estates where pedestrian and vehicle traffic frequently intersect.

Driver Arrested As Investigations Continue

When reporters arrived at the scene, the female driver appeared to have no visible injuries but was seen speaking with authorities as officers conducted initial investigations.

According to witnesses, the driver initially appeared shaken following the incident and reportedly exited her vehicle only after calming down.

A tow truck later arrived to remove the vehicle from the accident site later in the evening.

Police confirmed that they were alerted to the crash at around 5:30pm. Following preliminary investigations, the 54-year-old driver was arrested for reckless driving causing grievous hurt.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing as authorities work to determine exactly how the collision occurred.
