According to Shin Min Daily News, The woman, identified as Li Ruifei (name transliterated), had reportedly been married for only a few months before the fatal accident occurred. She had returned to Singapore from China not long ago after her wedding.

The case has drawn attention to concerns surrounding cyclist safety and road accident liability in busy urban areas.

Newlywed Was Cycling To Buy Seafood For Dinner

According to reports, Li had married her husband in November 2025 in Fujian, China, before returning to Singapore. The couple had been settling into married life for around four months before the tragedy struck.

On the morning of the accident, Li and her husband had been meeting relatives and planned to prepare a larger dinner later that day. Wanting to add more dishes to the meal, Li decided to cycle to the nearby Geylang Serai Market to buy fresh seafood.

Her husband, Zhang, who works in the construction sector, said the couple usually cycled together when they went to the market. However, on that particular day, Li chose to make the trip alone while he remained at home.

The decision turned out to be the last time he would see his wife alive.

Husband Receives Devastating Phone Call

After some time had passed, Zhang decided to call his wife to check if she needed help carrying groceries home.

Instead of hearing his wife’s voice, a doctor answered the phone.

Emergency responders from the Singapore Civil Defence Force had transported an injured person to Changi General Hospital following the collision.

When Zhang rushed to the hospital, medical staff informed him that his wife had suffered extremely severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, she did not survive.

He later collected her belongings and reportedly discovered bloodstains on her clothing. Even the cash that had been kept in her pocket was stained with blood, a heartbreaking reminder of the accident.

Police Investigating Lorry Collision

Authorities confirmed that the accident involved a lorry and a cyclist near the junction of Jalan Ubi and Sims Avenue.

The police were alerted to the incident at around 11:25am. A 69-year-old male lorry driver is currently assisting with investigations as officers work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Li’s husband later returned to the accident scene the following day. Still struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, he reportedly said he could not understand how such a serious accident could have happened there.

He has also appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam to come forward with information that may help clarify what happened.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety in Singapore, particularly for cyclists sharing the road with larger vehicles such as lorries and buses. Investigations into the accident remain ongoing.
