Car Runs Red Light And Crashes Into PMD Carrying Woman And Two Children In Hougang

A serious traffic accident in Hougang has left a woman and two young children injured after a car allegedly ran a red light and collided with a personal mobility device (PMD) at a busy junction.

The incident occurred at the junction of Hougang Avenue 8 and Hougang Street 61, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of a collision involving a car and a PMD.

Following the crash, a 54-year-old female driver was arrested for reckless driving causing grievous hurt, according to authorities.

Dashcam Footage Appears To Show Red-Light Violation

A dashcam video of the incident later circulated online, showing the moments leading up to the crash. The footage indicates that the traffic light at the junction had already turned red for several seconds before a red car entered the intersection.

As the vehicle moved through the junction, it struck a woman who was riding a PMD across the pedestrian crossing.

Two children — a six-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl — were reportedly travelling with the woman on the device at the time of the collision. The impact sent the trio to the ground as nearby pedestrians reacted in shock.

The footage also showed several members of the public rushing forward to help the victims moments after the crash occurred.

Bystanders Rush In To Provide Immediate Assistance

Witnesses nearby quickly stepped in to assist those injured in the accident. A man wearing a white shirt, who had been walking behind the PMD rider, was seen hurrying towards the victims to check on their condition.

Another passer-by waiting on the opposite side of the road also ran across the junction to help.

According to witnesses, the crash produced a loud noise that drew the attention of people in nearby residential blocks.

One eyewitness later said he was at the ground floor of a nearby building when he heard the impact. When he turned around, he saw the aftermath of the collision and joined others in providing first aid to the injured.

Three Victims Taken To Hospital After Crash

Emergency responders later conveyed the injured to hospital for medical treatment. The PMD rider and the two children were taken to medical facilities while conscious.

Two of the victims were sent to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, while the third was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the driver involved in the crash was subsequently arrested for reckless driving causing grievous hurt.

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
