Walao, really cannot brain this kind of thing.
Last Saturday, around 7pm lidat, I was at the playground with my son. The sun was going down already, sky starting to turn that kind of dark purple, you know? Then I saw this small girl, maybe 4 years old only, running around like nobody’s business. Super active, climbing here and there.
I look around, trying to find the parents. No sign of them. Then I spot the helper sitting on a bench all the way at the other end. Sian, she was totally glued to her phone, head down, thumb scrolling non-stop. For the whole thirty minutes I was there, she never even look up once to check on the girl. Not even one glance!
I was standing there watching my son, but my heart was doing thump-thump for the girl. The playground so near the car park, and at 7pm, people driving back for dinner, sometimes they zoom-zoom only. If the girl suddenly dash out, how?
Inside my head, I was thinking: Aiyah, these parents how can like that? On a Saturday leh! Weekend is supposed to be family time, but they just “outsource” everything to the helper. Then the helper also don’t care, just enjoy her TikTok or what.
I tell you, it’s damn scary. I kept looking at the girl, then looking at the helper. I was thinking… imagine if I was a bad guy? In that 30 minutes, I could have just walked up, hold her hand, and lead her away. The helper wouldn’t even know the girl was gone until she finished her video.
Nowadays, people really take safety for granted. Singapore is safe, yes, but anything can happen in a split second. Don’t wait until something jialat happens then want to regret. Really gei siao.
Irresponsible parents + and irresponsible maids = disaster
