Bus Collision at Ang Mo Kio Interchange, Passenger Says Glass Shattered Near Face

A commuter has described a frightening experience after two public buses collided at Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange, leaving him with minor injuries and lingering shock. The incident, which occurred in the late afternoon, has sparked fresh concerns over public transport safety and accident response procedures in Singapore.

According to the passenger, a 22-year-old man, he had just boarded the bus and was seated by the window when the collision happened. As the vehicle began moving out of the interchange, a loud impact was heard, followed by the sudden shattering of glass near where he was sitting.

He later shared that fragments flew towards him, causing cuts to his leg and swelling. While he avoided more serious injuries—reportedly because his eyes were closed and he was wearing headphones—he claimed the incident left him with what he described as “mental trauma”.

Shattered Glass and Shock Among Passengers

Images circulating online show a damaged bus window with a large hole where the glass had broken. The surrounding seat area was covered in shards, indicating the force of the collision. Another bus was seen positioned very close behind, suggesting a rear-end impact within the interchange premises.

The passenger alleged that after the crash, commuters were instructed to alight from the vehicle. However, he claimed there was little to no assistance provided on-site, leaving affected individuals waiting without immediate support.

He also speculated that the collision may have been caused either by a misjudgement during the turn or insufficient driving control, though these claims remain unverified.

Operators Confirm Details of the Incident

Transport operator SBS Transit later confirmed that one of its buses, operating service 24, was involved in the accident. The vehicle was reportedly turning into a parking lot within the interchange when it collided with another bus behind it.

The second vehicle, service 136, is operated by Go-Ahead Singapore. At the time of the incident, there were no passengers onboard the SBS Transit bus, according to the company’s statement.

The collision took place at approximately 5.15pm. Authorities and transport operators are currently looking into the matter, though further details on injuries or accountability have yet to be disclosed.

Series of Recent Accidents Raises Questions

This incident is not isolated. Earlier in the same month, another accident involving multiple vehicles—including two buses and a car—occurred along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, just outside the interchange. That case saw several individuals, including an infant, taken to hospital.

The recurrence of such accidents within a short timeframe has raised questions about traffic management, driver training, and commuter safety within busy transport hubs.

As Singapore continues to invest in public transport infrastructure and reliability, incidents like these highlight the importance of maintaining strict operational standards and ensuring passenger safety remains a top priority.
