A gruesome murder investigation is underway in Bangkok after a 26-year-old Laotian man was arrested over the death and dismemberment of his girlfriend. The suspect, identified as Tom, has denied killing the victim despite admitting to disposing of her body.
The case came to light on March 24 when police discovered human remains scattered across multiple locations in Nonthaburi province. Officers were alerted at around 8pm after a woman’s head was found inside a rubbish bag in a canal, wrapped in a towel.
Further searches in the surrounding area led to the discovery of additional body parts, each placed in separate black bags and abandoned at short distances from one another, suggesting a deliberate attempt to conceal the crime.
Victim Identified as Young Laotian Woman

Authorities later identified the victim as a 20-year-old Laotian national known as Am. She had reportedly been living with Tom in the Tung Song Hong area of Bangkok prior to her death. Investigators believe the killing took place inside their shared accommodation before the remains were transported and discarded.
Police tracked the suspect to Nong Khai province, where he was arrested while attempting to cross the border into Laos. He was subsequently transferred back to Bangkok for questioning and further legal proceedings.
Suspect Claims Suicide Despite Evidence
During interrogation, Tom denied murdering his girlfriend, instead claiming that she had taken her own life during a heated argument. According to his statement, the dispute was driven by jealousy over her work as an entertainer in Pattaya.
He alleged that she fatally stabbed herself, after which he dismembered her body and disposed of the remains in eight separate bags. Authorities have not confirmed this version of events and continue to treat the case as a homicide.
Conflicting Accounts Raise Further Suspicion
Investigators have highlighted inconsistencies between the suspect’s claims and statements from the victim’s family. Am’s brother reportedly told police that the couple had been together for around three years and worked at the same hospital, contradicting claims about her employment.
He also alleged that his sister had previously been subjected to abuse by Tom, describing him as highly possessive and prone to jealousy. These allegations are expected to play a key role in ongoing investigations.
The shocking nature of the crime has sparked concern across Thailand, particularly over issues of domestic violence and cross-border criminal activity. Authorities have stated that forensic examinations and further evidence collection are ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances behind the killing.
