Taiwan Woman Files For Divorce After Shocking Fertility Suggestion From Mother-In-Law
A woman in Taiwan has ended her seven-year marriage following a deeply controversial and distressing family dispute involving fertility issues and an unexpected suggestion from her mother-in-law.
The case, which gained attention after being shared anonymously on Dcard, highlights the emotional strain couples can face when dealing with infertility, as well as the impact of family pressure on marital stability.
According to the woman, she initially experienced an unplanned pregnancy early in her marriage but chose to terminate it due to career pressures while working in the demanding semiconductor industry. In later years, the couple attempted to conceive again but faced difficulties, with medical tests reportedly indicating that her husband had a low sperm count.
Family Pressure Turns Marriage Into “Living Hell”
Despite medical findings, the woman claimed her mother-in-law placed the blame squarely on her, accusing her of not taking proper care of her husband. The situation escalated significantly when the older woman moved into the couple’s home.
What followed, according to the account, was a period of intense control and emotional distress. The woman said she was pressured to quit her job to focus on conceiving, made to consume herbal remedies, and had her daily routine closely monitored — including her ovulation cycle.
She further alleged that she was instructed to engage in intimacy at specific times, with her mother-in-law even waiting outside the bedroom. Over time, the emotional toll reportedly eroded the relationship, with the woman stating that her feelings towards her husband gradually faded.
Luxury Gifts Fail To Repair Relationship
As tensions grew, the woman asked her husband to intervene and ask his mother to leave. However, he initially refused. In an attempt to ease the situation, he reportedly purchased a luxury Chanel handbag valued at around RM25,000 (approximately S$7,200), but the gesture failed to resolve the underlying issues.
Although the mother-in-law eventually moved out, the relationship remained strained, with lingering resentment and unresolved conflict continuing to affect the couple’s marriage.
Controversial Suggestion Becomes Breaking Point
The situation reached a tipping point when the mother-in-law allegedly suggested that the woman conceive using her brother-in-law’s sperm in order to continue the family lineage.
The proposal reportedly shocked the woman, particularly as she claimed the brother-in-law had a criminal history. Adding to her distress, her husband did not object strongly to the suggestion, which she interpreted as a lack of support.
Unable to accept the situation, the woman decided to leave the marital home and informed her husband of her intention to divorce.
Mediation Attempts End In Failure
An attempt at reconciliation, reportedly arranged by the father-in-law, ended in further conflict. During a family meeting, tensions escalated when the mother-in-law continued criticising the woman.
The situation reportedly spiralled into a heated confrontation, bringing any hopes of reconciliation to an end. Despite apologies from other family members, the woman maintained her decision to proceed with the divorce.
