Singapore Court Case: Repeat Offender Admits Filming Boys in Toilets
A 26-year-old Singaporean man has admitted to multiple counts of voyeurism involving underage victims, raising renewed concerns about safety in public and educational spaces. Ezekiel Isaiah Tee Xu Jie pleaded guilty in court after being caught filming three boys, aged between nine and 15, while they were using toilet cubicles.
According to CNA, The case has drawn significant attention due to the offender’s history. Tee had previously been convicted of similar offences and was released from prison just months before committing the latest acts. At the time of the incidents, he was working part-time as a student care teacher, placing him in close proximity to children.
Due to a court-imposed gag order, identifying details of the victims and exact locations have not been disclosed, in line with Singapore’s strict legal protections for minors involved in such cases.
Escalating Behaviour Raises Public Concern
Court proceedings revealed that Tee deliberately targeted young boys by checking their legs from beneath toilet cubicle doors to estimate their age before recording them. In one instance, he filmed a boy in a toilet after attending a church service. In another, he left his workplace during working hours to commit the offence.
The incidents escalated over a short span of time. On separate occasions, he repeated the same behaviour, demonstrating a pattern of premeditation and persistence. His actions were eventually exposed when one of the victims noticed a phone pointed in his direction and reported the matter promptly.
Authorities acted swiftly following the report, leading to Tee’s arrest on the same day. His mobile phone was seized as evidence, which later formed part of the prosecution’s case.
Repeat Offender Facing Heavy Penalties
During the hearing, Tee admitted that his actions were driven by personal gratification, stating that he felt a sense of excitement from observing the victims. This admission, combined with his prior criminal record, has significantly aggravated the severity of the case.
The prosecution highlighted that this marks his fourth conviction for voyeurism-related offences, describing him as a continuing threat to the community. They are seeking a jail term ranging from 33 to 40 months, along with caning. Additional penalties may also be imposed due to the offences being committed while he was still under remission.
The judge noted that despite previous convictions and incarceration, Tee had failed to reform, pointing out that this is already his second offence as an adult. His sentencing has been postponed to a later date, where the court will determine the final punishment.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and the need for stricter safeguards, particularly in environments involving children. It also raises broader question
