A disturbing incident in the United States has drawn attention to public transport safety after a 26-year-old man was accused of attempting to push an unsuspecting commuter into an oncoming train. The case unfolded at Northgate Station in Seattle, where surveillance footage captured the alarming sequence of events.

As the train approached, Melendez allegedly made his first attempt to shove Walburn onto the tracks. The victim managed to keep his balance, narrowly avoiding what could have been a fatal fall. Moments later, a second attempt was made, but again proved unsuccessful.
Melendez fled the scene immediately after the failed attempts. Walburn, shaken but unharmed, reportedly pursued him briefly before authorities were alerted.
Arrest Made Days Later After Investigation
Law enforcement officers later identified the suspect through surveillance footage. Their investigation led them to a mental health community facility where Melendez was residing. He was arrested five days after the incident and formally charged shortly after.
Bail was set at approximately S$1,012,500 (converted from US$750,000), reflecting the severity of the allegations. He is currently awaiting trial.
Troubled History Raises Broader Concerns
Court records revealed that Melendez had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had undergone mental health treatment. His past includes a 2019 domestic violence case involving a family member, which was eventually dismissed after he was deemed unfit to stand trial.
