A 46-year-old woman was found dead in her flat in Chai Chee, after a concerned volunteer raised the alarm upon noticing that food deliveries left outside her home had gone uncollected.
The incident came to light after a volunteer from a charity organisation grew worried when repeated food deliveries were not retrieved. The woman, who lived alone, had reportedly missed collecting multiple meals — an unusual occurrence that ultimately prompted a call to the authorities.
Neighbours and residents in the area described the situation as tragic, noting that the woman had kept largely to herself in recent years, despite previously being more interactive when she first moved in.
Volunteer’s Concern Leads To Discovery
The chain of events began when a charity volunteer delivered a meal to the woman’s unit at around 11am. When the food remained untouched, it initially raised mild concern. However, a second delivery later that same day also went uncollected, deepening worries about her well-being.
By the following morning, the volunteer returned to check again and, upon seeing that the earlier meals were still untouched, decided to escalate the matter. The situation was reported, and the police were subsequently alerted.
This swift action proved crucial. When officers arrived at the flat located at Chai Chee Avenue, they discovered the woman lying motionless inside the unit.
Lived Alone With Mobility Challenges
According to neighbours, the woman had been residing in the flat for about a decade. While she was once more sociable, her interactions reportedly decreased significantly over time.
Residents also shared that she had mobility issues and relied on a personal mobility aid to move around. Items such as a trolley and cartons were often seen outside her home, along with charity food deliveries that supported her daily needs.
The presence of uncollected food ultimately became the key sign that something was amiss — highlighting how small observations can make a significant difference in such situations.
Authorities Rule Out Foul Play
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a call for assistance at the unit. Upon arrival, the woman was found unresponsive.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was also dispatched to the scene, where a paramedic later pronounced her dead.
Preliminary investigations indicate that there is no suspicion of foul play, though inquiries are still ongoing.
The case has sparked conversations about social isolation and the importance of community vigilance, particularly for individuals living alone or facing mobility challenges.
