A heated roadside confrontation between an e-bike rider and a public bus driver in Clementi has gone viral, drawing attention to road safety concerns involving personal mobility devices and heavy vehicles.
The incident, which took place on the morning of April 13, reportedly involved a near collision that quickly escalated into a shouting match. A video of the exchange has since circulated widely online, sparking debate among netizens over accountability and safe driving practices.
According to a passenger, the altercation occurred on a bus operating service 189, disrupting what would have otherwise been a routine commute.
Viral Video Shows Tense Confrontation
Footage of the incident shows the e-bike rider approaching the driver’s window in an agitated manner, gesturing angrily before boarding the bus to continue the confrontation.
The rider was heard speaking loudly in Mandarin and dialect, insisting that the police be called. The bus driver, who also appeared visibly frustrated, responded by saying he did not see the rider and questioned whether the rider was obstructing the bus.
Passengers onboard were caught in the middle of the dispute, with one woman audibly expressing her frustration, saying she simply wanted to go home. The rider dismissed her remark, prolonging the tense exchange.
After several minutes, the rider eventually returned to his e-bike and left the scene, though not before turning back multiple times to glare at the driver.
Operator Responds After Investigation
Public transport operator Tower Transit Singapore confirmed that an internal investigation was conducted following the incident.
The findings revealed that the bus captain had made a right turn from an incorrect lane, causing the vehicle to stray into the path of the e-bike rider. This manoeuvre likely led to the near collision that triggered the confrontation.
As a result, the driver will be counselled and reminded to adhere strictly to safe driving standards, particularly when navigating turns and sharing the road with smaller, more vulnerable users.
