Dashcam footage circulating online captured the frightening moment a white Hyundai Avante allegedly failed to stop at a red light before crashing into the child. The impact threw the boy several metres across the road, leaving nearby pedestrians and motorists stunned.

The incident reportedly took place along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 at around 2:30pm on Apr. 29. According to the footage uploaded by SG Road Vigilante, traffic on one side of the junction had already come to a complete stop at the red signal while the boy cycled across the pedestrian crossing.

A woman and another young child on bicycles were seen following behind him moments before the collision occurred.

Several bystanders rushed forward immediately to help. Among them was a man wearing what appeared to be a construction helmet and reflective safety vest, who quickly carried the injured boy away from the middle of the junction to safety.

The woman believed to be accompanying the child was later seen approaching the driver of the vehicle, seemingly confronting him after the crash.

The incident has since generated strong reactions online, with many Singapore netizens criticising reckless driving behaviour and calling for stricter enforcement against motorists who beat red lights. Some also pointed out the dangers faced by cyclists and pedestrians at busy junctions, especially during school dismissal hours.

Road safety experts have repeatedly warned that red-light violations remain one of the leading causes of severe traffic accidents in Singapore. Such incidents can result in devastating injuries, particularly when vulnerable road users such as children, cyclists and pedestrians are involved.

The latest accident has also reignited discussions about defensive driving, traffic camera enforcement, and whether additional traffic calming measures should be introduced near pedestrian-heavy crossings.

Police investigations into the incident are believed to be ongoing.
