The incident reportedly took place during a private-hire ride home from work, according to a social media post that later went viral on Instagram.

The passenger claimed the driver appeared distracted throughout the journey and was repeatedly “fiddling” with an object positioned near his right leg while operating the vehicle.

Things reportedly became more concerning when the passenger started hearing soft moaning sounds coming from the front of the car.

Curious and alarmed, the passenger allegedly looked over the driver’s shoulder and discovered that a second mobile phone near the driver’s knee was playing a Japanese pornographic video while the vehicle was still in motion.

Passenger Claims Vehicle Was Swerving During Journey

“So this evening i took grab from my office back back. Boarded this Grab driver car and i immediately noticed that he was fiddling with something on the right side near his right leg. He was very distracted while driving. I start to hear soft moaning . So i decided to peak over his shoulder and i saw he had a spare phone rught under his main phone near to this right knee and there were japanese Pvideo playing.

hen i decided to film his act…..to add on, the car keep swaying to left and right, unsteady driving.”

The passenger later filmed part of the encounter, alleging that the private-hire vehicle was driving unsteadily on the road while the driver continued watching the explicit content.

According to the claims shared online, the car was allegedly swaying left and right during the trip, raising fears about road safety and distracted driving.

The incident quickly drew strong reactions across Singapore social media platforms, with many users criticising the driver’s behaviour and questioning how such conduct could happen while transporting paying passengers.

Several commenters also expressed concern about commuter safety, especially given the increasing reliance on ride-hailing and transport apps for daily travel across Singapore.

The viral footage was reposted by local social media account @sgfollowsall, where it rapidly gained attention from netizens discussing transport safety, driver accountability and mobile phone usage behind the wheel.

Grab Says Driver Has Been Suspended

In response to media queries, Grab confirmed that it is investigating the matter.

The company also stated that the driver-partner’s account has been temporarily suspended due to alleged safety lapses during the trip.

Grab added that passenger safety remains a top priority for the platform.

The company did not disclose further details about the driver involved or whether additional disciplinary action may follow after investigations conclude.

Distracted driving remains a serious offence in Singapore, particularly when drivers use mobile devices while operating vehicles. Road safety experts have repeatedly warned that even a few seconds of distraction can significantly increase accident risks, especially in heavy traffic conditions.

The incident has also reignited discussions about stricter enforcement and monitoring of private-hire drivers, as ride-hailing services continue to play a major role in Singapore’s transport landscape.
