A confrontation involving a woman accused of feeding pigeons in Choa Chu Kang has gone viral online after a video captured her allegedly making obscene gestures, swinging her bag and splashing liquid at a man who confronted her.
The incident reportedly took place at around 8:30am on May 1 near Block 253A Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1. Footage circulating on TikTok has since attracted significant attention, with tens of thousands of shares across social media platforms.
According to the man who recorded the encounter, he noticed the woman scattering food for a flock of pigeons in the estate. Concerned about the growing bird problem in the neighbourhood, he approached her and reminded her that feeding pigeons is not allowed in Singapore.
In the video, the woman was first seen tossing food towards more than 10 pigeons gathered on the grass patch. Moments later, she allegedly responded aggressively after being questioned.
The footage then showed her pointing her middle finger towards the cameraman before reportedly swinging her handbag in his direction. She was also seen throwing a plastic bottle and splashing liquid while following the man as he walked away.
Resident Says Estate Has Seen Rising Pest Problems
Speaking to Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News, the resident said he had lived in the area for nearly three decades and had become increasingly frustrated with hygiene issues in the estate.
He claimed the number of pigeons, cockroaches and rats in the neighbourhood had risen sharply over recent years. Bird droppings on parked vehicles and walkways were also becoming more common, according to the resident.
The man explained that he initially wanted to avoid escalating the situation and attempted to leave after speaking to the woman. However, he alleged that she continued following him, prompting him to take out his phone and record the encounter.
The resident later lodged a police report over the matter. Singapore Police Force officers confirmed that a report had been filed and investigations are ongoing.
Feeding pigeons is prohibited in Singapore under environmental public health regulations due to concerns over cleanliness, disease transmission and pest management. Authorities have repeatedly reminded members of the public not to feed wild birds in HDB estates and public spaces.
