A 25-year-old woman working in China has gone viral after revealing that her father regularly transfers her around RM82,500 monthly, equivalent to approximately S$25,000, for living expenses.
The woman, who graduated from Boston University and currently works as a programme host in China, sparked widespread discussion after sharing a screenshot of the bank transfer on social media platform Threads.
What initially appeared to be a casual post about her daily life quickly exploded online after netizens noticed the size of the transfer, which reportedly amounted to 550,000 Chinese yuan.
The screenshot was widely circulated online and reportedly shared more than 10,000 times, with many users expressing shock over the amount.
Although the woman is Malaysian, she clarified that she is currently based in China for work.
Says The Allowance Amount Changes Monthly

Following the viral attention, the woman explained that the amount she receives from her father is not fixed every month.
According to her, some months involve larger transfers while there are also periods when she does not require as much financial support. She added that she never expected the post to attract so much attention online.
The transfer account name also became a topic of discussion after some users noticed it appeared to be linked to a company registered under her name, allegedly set up by her father.
Many online commenters pointed out that the “allowance” alone exceeds the yearly salary of numerous working adults across Asia.
Woman Says She Works Because Staying Home Is Boring
Despite receiving significant financial support from her family, the woman said she still enjoys working and finds fulfilment in her career as a programme host.
She explained that staying home every day would quickly become boring and that working provides her with purpose and happiness beyond money.
The viral post later prompted advice from her mother, who reportedly cautioned her against sharing too much about her financial situation online.
According to the woman, her mother warned that people might misunderstand the post as flaunting wealth and assume she does not need to work hard because money simply “falls from the sky”.
Her mother also encouraged her to share more content related to her professional achievements and personal efforts instead of focusing on financial matters.
Viral Discussion Sparks Debate Over Wealth And Privilege
The story has since generated heated debate across social media platforms, with reactions ranging from admiration to criticism.
Some users said they envied her privileged lifestyle, while others argued there is nothing wrong with wealthy parents supporting their children financially if they can afford to do so.
The incident also reignited conversations surrounding generational wealth, privilege, and luxury lifestyles frequently showcased on social media.
At a time when many young adults across Asia are struggling with rising living costs, inflation, and expensive housing markets, the revelation of a monthly S$25,000 allowance naturally drew significant public attention.
