The teenager is expected to be charged in court on May 13 for the offence of theft of a motor vehicle.

Under Singapore law, the offence carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The case has once again highlighted how police cameras and surveillance technology continue to play a major role in solving crimes across Singapore estates and neighbourhoods.

VEHICLE THEFT REMAINS A SERIOUS OFFENCE

While motorcycle theft cases are relatively uncommon in Singapore compared to many neighbouring countries, such offences are treated seriously due to the financial losses and inconvenience caused to victims.

Motorcycle owners are often advised to install additional anti-theft measures such as wheel locks, alarm systems, GPS trackers, and parking in well-lit areas with CCTV coverage.

In recent years, Singapore authorities have also repeatedly reminded vehicle owners not to leave keys unattended or ignition systems unsecured, as opportunistic thefts can still occur despite the country’s low crime rate.

The incident at Tampines Street 45 has since attracted attention online, with some netizens expressing surprise at the young age of the suspect involved in the alleged offence.
