The incident reportedly took place at Block 337 Ubi Avenue 1 on 1 April at about 2.05pm. Footage of the alleged theft was later shared online by the Instagram page SG Follows All, where it quickly attracted attention from netizens.

According to the caption accompanying the post, the bicycle seat had been stolen and the owner was hoping members of the public could help identify the man involved.

CCTV Footage Allegedly Shows Uncle Taking Bicycle Seat

The short clip allegedly showed an elderly man approaching the parked bicycle before removing the seat and walking away with it.

While it remains unclear whether a police report has been lodged, the online post prompted numerous reactions from netizens, many of whom criticised the alleged act.

Some commenters urged the victim to report the matter directly to the police instead of trying to settle it privately online.

Others joked about the incident, with one user asking whose “grandfather” it was and another sarcastically calling the bicycle seat “FOC”, short for free-of-charge.

Netizens React To Rising Cases Of Elderly Misbehaviour

Several commenters also claimed there had been a rise in incidents involving elderly individuals behaving badly in public.

One netizen wrote that some older offenders tend to use age as an excuse after getting caught, while another remarked that “recently so many old men doing this”.

A commenter even alleged that the man seen in the footage might work at a bicycle shop in Ubi, though this claim has not been verified.

The incident sparked broader discussions online about petty theft, public behaviour, and the growing use of CCTV cameras in HDB estates.

CCTV & Social Media Increasingly Used To Identify Suspects

Across Singapore, residents have increasingly relied on home surveillance cameras and social media platforms to share footage of alleged thefts or suspicious activity.

Such clips often spread rapidly online, especially when incidents happen in common residential areas like HDB corridors and bicycle parking spaces.

However, some netizens also cautioned against jumping to conclusions before authorities complete investigations, noting that online accusations can sometimes lead to mistaken identity.

At the time of writing, no official statement has been released regarding the alleged bicycle seat theft at Ubi Avenue 1.
