The accused, Mohamad Faiz bin Umar, allegedly stabbed 21-year-old Chua Bee Ting inside a lift at Block 248 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 on the night of May 26. He was charged on May 28 while receiving treatment at the National University Hospital after reportedly suffering serious injuries from a fall.

According to court documents, the alleged attack took place between 8:53pm and 9:22pm inside Lift A of the residential block. Police officers responding to the scene later found the victim lying motionless at the lift lobby on the 12th floor.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

The case has since drawn widespread attention online due to the disturbing circumstances surrounding the incident, especially after reports emerged that the suspect allegedly jumped from the 18th floor shortly after the stabbing.

Police confirmed that the man was arrested for murder at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for treatment. Due to his condition, the charge was reportedly presented to him by a field magistrate at the hospital itself.

If convicted of murder in Singapore, the accused could face the death penalty under Singapore law.

Neighbours in shock over fatal HDB incident

Residents living around the Choa Chu Kang neighbourhood said the incident caused panic and confusion that night, with several police vehicles and emergency responders seen surrounding the block.

Some neighbours reportedly heard shouting before officers arrived at the scene. Others described seeing paramedics and police cordoning off parts of the lift lobby area for several hours.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that both parties were known to each other. Chinese-language media reports also suggested the pair were believed to be in a relationship.

The motive behind the alleged killing has not been disclosed, and investigations remain ongoing.

Singapore has seen several high-profile violent crime cases in recent months, sparking renewed public discussions surrounding mental health support, relationship disputes, and public safety in residential estates.

As the investigation continues, many online users have expressed condolences to the victim’s family while awaiting further details to emerge in court proceedings.
