A shocking school case in Taiwan has sparked outrage online after a teenage girl was allegedly ambushed, beaten, stripped and humiliated by more than a dozen classmates over a compensation dispute involving a damaged piece of clothing worth around S$20.
The incident, which took place in August 2023, resurfaced again after one of the men involved in filming the attack was sentenced to prison on May 28, 2026.
According to Taiwanese media reports, the victim had borrowed a pair of overalls from a female classmate. The clothing was accidentally damaged, but instead of asking for the original amount, the classmate allegedly demanded NT$5,000 (around S$203) in compensation — about 10 times the original value of the outfit.
When the teen could not afford to pay the amount, several schoolmates allegedly decided to “teach her a lesson”.
Teen Girl Allegedly Ambushed At Tourist Spot
The victim was reportedly lured to Nanliao Fishing Port, a tourist attraction in Taiwan, where more than 12 girls allegedly surrounded and attacked her.
Reports claimed the teen was beaten with baseball bats and even burned with cigarettes during the assault.
Photos circulating online also showed the victim’s top being forcibly removed during the attack, adding further humiliation to the violent incident.
Several bystanders allegedly stood around watching while others recorded videos and took photographs instead of helping the victim.
One of the girls was also allegedly heard threatening the victim by saying she could “bring her to work as a hostess”, sparking further outrage online over the humiliating nature of the assault.
The disturbing footage was later uploaded online and widely circulated on social media platforms, eventually drawing the attention of Taiwanese authorities.
Police Investigation Led To Arrests
Police reportedly launched investigations after the videos spread online.
Authorities later discovered that many of the alleged attackers involved were minors at the time of the incident.
One of the individuals identified was an 18-year-old man surnamed Chen, who was accused of filming the assault and taking photographs during the incident.
Taiwanese media reported that Chen was sentenced on May 28, 2026 to three years and seven months in prison over his involvement in the case.
He reportedly reached a settlement agreement with the victim’s parents and paid compensation before sentencing.
The case has triggered heated discussions online, with many netizens expressing anger over the brutality of the attack and questioning why so many people chose to record the incident instead of intervening.
