According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), firefighters were alerted to the blaze at Block 439 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 at around 1.20pm.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the living room of a unit on the 14th floor engulfed in flames.

SCDF officers quickly deployed two water jets to contain and extinguish the fire before it could spread further to neighbouring units.

Although the blaze was brought under control, the affected flat reportedly suffered extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the unit.

SCDF Reminds Public About Common Causes Of Residential Fires

In its statement, SCDF reminded residents that unattended cooking, electrical faults, and unattended lighted materials continue to be the top causes of residential fires in Singapore.

Residents were advised not to leave cooking unattended and to avoid leaving open flames such as candles, incense, and cigarettes burning without supervision.

SCDF also warned against overloading electrical sockets and recommended that residents avoid charging electronic devices overnight for prolonged periods.

The public was further reminded to ensure lighted materials are completely extinguished before disposal to reduce the risk of accidental fires.

Residential fires remain a serious concern in Singapore, especially in high-rise HDB estates where smoke can spread rapidly through corridors and shared spaces.
