Former Singapore blogger Amos Yee sparks backlash again after claiming Instagram and Discord had shut down his accounts, with netizens flooding social media to celebrate the bans and call for other platforms to follow suit.
Yee, who is now based overseas, posted online saying he planned to repost old blog entries directly onto X to “gain a larger reach”, claiming external website links hurt engagement. He also made several vulgar remarks in the same post while encouraging people to interact with his content.
The post quickly triggered a wave of reactions online, with many Singaporeans criticising Yee and questioning why he still has supporters despite his controversial history.
One commenter wrote that “whoever is a fan of this chap really need to check their devices also”, while another said Yee “should’ve been made irrelevant years ago”.
Others questioned how Yee continues to survive financially, with one netizen asking how he manages to get through daily life without a proper job.
Several users also expressed relief over the reported shutdown of his social media accounts, with comments such as “great job internet!!!” and “took them long enough” appearing repeatedly across the thread.
Some users went even further, calling for every major platform to ban him permanently, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Telegram.
However, not everyone agreed with the online pile-on. A small number of commenters argued that people should stop obsessing over Yee and move on, with one person saying: “Leave him alone la guys. He is trying to change for the better.”
Another commenter questioned whether society intended to condemn Yee “for the rest of his life”, while others warned against turning the issue into a political debate.
Amos Yee first rose to prominence in Singapore as a teenage YouTuber and blogger known for making inflammatory political and religious content. Over the years, he became increasingly controversial due to online remarks and legal troubles linked to inappropriate content involving minors.
The latest backlash once again shows how deeply divisive Yee remains among Singaporeans, with reactions ranging from anger and ridicule to concerns over online harassment and mob behaviour.
