Thai authorities have issued warnings for residents and tourists in six southern provinces as meteorologists forecast days of heavy rain, possible flash floods, landslides and dangerous sea conditions.

The alert comes as a strong south-west monsoon system intensifies across the Andaman Sea and Thailand’s southern coastline, prompting emergency agencies to prepare for potential weather-related disasters.

Officials from Thailand’s disaster management authorities said the weather system is expected to bring widespread rainfall and isolated downpours from 3 to 8 June, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions.

The warning affects several popular tourist destinations frequented by both local and foreign visitors.

Six Provinces Placed On Flood Watch

Authorities identified six southern provinces as being at heightened risk of flash floods, forest runoff and landslides:

Emergency response teams have been placed on standby across the affected provinces, with local authorities instructed to closely monitor weather conditions and water levels.

Heavy machinery and rescue equipment have also been pre-positioned in vulnerable areas to allow rapid deployment should emergencies occur.

Officials warned that intense rainfall over a short period could overwhelm drainage systems and trigger sudden flooding, particularly in communities located near hillsides, rivers and waterways.

Rough Seas Expected Across Andaman Coast

Apart from flooding concerns, authorities are also warning of hazardous sea conditions along Thailand’s Andaman coast.

Forecasts indicate waves in the upper Andaman Sea could reach between two and three metres, while thunderstorms may generate waves exceeding three metres.

The lower Andaman Sea is also expected to experience rough conditions, with wave heights reaching around three metres and potentially higher during storm activity.

As a result, four provinces have additionally been placed on alert for dangerous maritime conditions:

Boat operators, fishermen and ferry services have been urged to exercise extreme caution. Authorities have indicated that sailing restrictions may be imposed if conditions deteriorate further.

Tourist Attractions May Be Closed

Local governments have been instructed to monitor waterfalls, caves, beaches and other natural attractions that could become dangerous during periods of heavy rain.

Temporary closures may be implemented if safety risks increase.

Officials are also preparing emergency shelters and ensuring sufficient supplies of food, drinking water and essential necessities are available should evacuations become necessary.

Warning signs are expected to be installed along beaches and coastal areas, while tourists are being advised to avoid swimming during periods of rough seas.

Residents and visitors have been encouraged to stay updated through official weather advisories and emergency warning channels as authorities continue monitoring the evolving weather situation.

With the monsoon season now intensifying across parts of Thailand, disaster management agencies are urging the public not to underestimate the risks posed by flash floods, landslides and dangerous sea conditions over the coming days.
