Singapore shoppers in the east will soon lose another familiar budget shopping destination, with Daiso announcing the closure of its long-running outlet at Tampines 1.
The Japanese household goods retailer confirmed that its Tampines 1 branch will cease operations after 14 years, with its final trading day scheduled for 21 June 2026. The store first opened in 2012 and has become a popular stop for residents seeking affordable household essentials, kitchenware, stationery and lifestyle products.
The closure was announced through Daiso Singapore’s official social media channels, where the company thanked customers for their support over the years and encouraged them to visit other nearby outlets instead. Following the closure, shoppers in the eastern region will have to travel to the branches at Pasir Ris Mall or Eastpoint Mall for the nearest alternative locations.
For many Tampines residents, the store has been a familiar fixture within the shopping mall for more than a decade, serving generations of bargain hunters looking for practical items at low prices.
Third Daiso Outlet To Shut Within Six Months
The Tampines 1 closure marks the third Daiso outlet in Singapore to shut its doors within a six-month period.
Earlier this year, the retailer closed its outlet at 100AM in Tanjong Pagar in January, followed by the shutdown of its Sembawang Shopping Centre branch in April.
While Daiso has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind the latest closure, the series of store exits has raised questions among shoppers about shifting retail strategies and changing consumer habits.
Despite the closures, the company continues to maintain a sizeable presence in Singapore, operating more than 30 outlets across the island. The retailer remains one of the country’s most recognisable value-for-money chains, attracting customers with its wide range of affordable products.
Originally famous in Japan as a 100-yen store concept, Daiso has adapted its pricing model for Singapore, where most products are sold at S$2.18 each.
Expansion Continues Despite Recent Closures
Although several outlets have closed recently, Daiso has also been expanding and evolving its retail offerings in Singapore.
The company introduced its Threeppy concept store at Funan in 2019, focusing on more stylish and trendy household products. It later launched its Standard Products concept at Jurong Point in 2022, targeting customers seeking minimalist and premium-inspired everyday items.
In addition, Daiso opened a new store at 71 Kallang Bahru in January 2026, signalling that the retailer remains committed to maintaining its footprint despite closing selected outlets.
The upcoming closure at Tampines 1 highlights the continuing changes taking place within Singapore’s retail sector, where shopping centres and retailers regularly adjust their tenant mix to reflect evolving consumer preferences, rental costs and market demand.
For east-side residents who have relied on the Tampines 1 outlet for affordable household purchases, the next two weeks will be their final opportunity to visit the store before it permanently closes its doors.
