McDonald’s S’pore Charging 30 Cents For Extra Burger Sauce, Netizens Ask: “No Sauce Can Discount?”

McDonald’s Singapore is drawing attention online after customers discovered that adding extra sauce to selected burgers now comes with a 30-cent surcharge.

The move, which was reportedly introduced in April 2026, affects a range of popular menu items including the McSpicy, McChicken, McCrispy, Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, Chicken Muffin, Scrambled Egg Burger, Smoky Beef and Buttermilk Crispy Chicken burgers.

The additional charge has sparked lively discussion on social media, with many netizens questioning whether customers who choose to remove sauce from their burgers should receive a discount in return.

Netizens Joke About “No Sauce” Discounts

One of the most common reactions online centred around the idea of receiving a price reduction for opting out of sauces altogether.

Several commenters jokingly asked whether customers could get 30 cents off their meal if they requested burgers without mayonnaise, tartar sauce or other condiments.

Others extended the joke further, asking whether removing buns, cheese or other ingredients would also result in discounts.

A number of customers also questioned whether McDonald’s could eventually begin charging for ketchup and chilli sauce packets in the future, although the company has not announced any such plans.

Customers Divided Over Additional Charges

While some netizens criticised the surcharge, others felt the fee was reasonable.

Supporters argued that customers should pay for additional items beyond the standard burger recipe, comparing it to customisation charges commonly found in other food establishments.

Some pointed out that McDonald’s Singapore still provides self-service chilli sauce and ketchup at many outlets without charge.

Others, however, felt that burger portions and sauce quantities had gradually decreased over the years, leading some customers to request extra sauce in the first place.

Part Of Wider Cost-Control Measures

The latest charge follows McDonald’s Singapore’s decision in January 2025 to introduce fees for selected condiments, including curry sauce and hotcakes syrup.

At the time, the company cited rising food costs and efforts to reduce food wastage as reasons behind the move.

As operating expenses continue to rise across the food and beverage sector, businesses have increasingly explored ways to manage costs while keeping headline menu prices relatively stable.

Customers Will Ultimately Decide

Whether the extra 30-cent sauce charge becomes a long-term issue may depend on customer behaviour.

For some customers, the additional cost is unlikely to affect their purchasing decisions.

For others, it has become another example of the growing number of add-on charges appearing in everyday purchases.

One thing is certain — while the sauce may cost just 30 cents, the debate online has been considerably more heated.
