Foreigner Injured After Stepping In To Stop Man From Beating Girlfriend In Pattaya Restaurant
A foreign tourist was reportedly injured after intervening in a violent domestic dispute involving a Thai couple at a restaurant in Pattaya, Thailand.
The incident took place on the evening of June 10 at a restaurant along Soi Thepprasit 8, where witnesses said a Thai man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend before turning his attention towards those who tried to help her.
According to local reports, officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station were alerted to the disturbance at around 8.20pm. Upon arrival, police arrested a 36-year-old Thai man identified as Sittichai as he allegedly attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle.
Woman Seen Being Assaulted On Roadside
A video recorded by a food delivery rider and later shared online showed the woman lying on the ground while trying to shield herself from the alleged assault.
Witnesses claimed the woman managed to escape and ran into a nearby restaurant seeking assistance.
However, the suspect reportedly followed her into the premises and attempted to drag her away despite her efforts to seek refuge.
At that point, a foreign diner who was inside the restaurant stepped forward to protect the woman.
Footage circulating online appeared to show the foreign man confronting the suspect and striking him in an effort to stop him from grabbing the victim.
Good Samaritan Becomes Target Of Attack
The situation quickly escalated as the confrontation shifted towards the foreign man.
According to witnesses, Sittichai allegedly attacked the foreigner, resulting in injuries. Another Thai woman was also seen stepping in to help diffuse the situation.
Restaurant patrons, food delivery riders and staff eventually managed to separate the individuals involved and forced the suspect away from the premises.
Employees then secured the restaurant by locking the front entrance while moving the female victim to a safer area at the back of the establishment.
Suspect Returns And Allegedly Threatens Victims
Despite being removed from the premises, the suspect allegedly returned shortly afterwards.
Witnesses claimed he kicked open the restaurant door and entered once again before breaking a glass bottle and using it to threaten his girlfriend as well as other people inside.
The situation was eventually brought under control when police officers arrived and took the suspect into custody before anyone else could be harmed.
Investigators later discovered that the man was reportedly wanted in connection with a previous assault case in Bangkok.
No Formal Complaints Filed
Surprisingly, local media reported that neither the injured foreigner, the woman involved nor the restaurant owner had filed formal complaints at the time of reporting.
According to local outlet Check Khao Pattaya, those involved reportedly did not wish to prolong legal proceedings and chose not to pursue further action.
Nevertheless, authorities have taken the suspect into custody and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has attracted widespread attention online, with many netizens praising the foreign tourist for stepping in to protect a stranger despite the personal risk involved.
