I cannot brain my friend anymore. Need to rant before I genuinely lose my mind and drop him as a friend.
Yesterday we went to NEX to eat, then wanted to head over to Serangoon Central area to look for something. The distance? Literally one bus stop away. If you walk, it’s maybe 400 meters? Max 5 minutes if you walk at typical tortoise-pace Singaporean speed.
Guess what this fellow do? The moment we step out of the MRT, he pulls out his phone. I thought he checking Google Maps or Telegram right? No sia. He opens Grab.
I look at him, stunned like vegetable. I ask him, “Eh bro, one stop only, just walk lah, or just take feeder bus if you really so lazy.”
You know what he reply me? “Aya very hot leh, later I sweat. And the bus must wait, Grab faster.”
Bro, you wait for the Grab driver to accept booking, drive from wherever he is, navigate the traffic light, turn into the pick-up point… it took 8 minutes. We could have walked there, finished our business, and walked halfway back already! And the fare? $14.30. For ONE BUS STOP. Fourteen dollars plus just to avoid walking 400m! He complain Grab nowadays very expensive, inflation hitting hard, CPF not enough… but his hand automatically go and press Book GrabHitch/GrabCar. Wallet bleeding every day then wonder why no savings.
And the best part? The absolute irony of this whole situation? This same guy has been whining to me for the past six months about how he cannot lose weight. Every time we meet, it’s the same old story: “Eh why my tummy getting bigger ah? I think my metabolism slowing down because I turning 38 soon, standard lah.”
Metabolism your head lah! Every single day 25k steps? No, this guy probably struggles to hit 2,500 steps a day. Anything more than 2 minutes of walking, he treats it like an IPPT 2.4km run. You want to lose weight but you refuse to expend even a single calorie to transport your own body across one traffic light? No wonder your waistline expanding faster than the RTS link construction!
Every day complain fat, complain no money, but continue to feed the Grab shareholders. I really cannot stand this kind of self-inflicted problem. Next time he wants to go anywhere, I’m just going to walk ahead and leave him to wait for his $14 air-conditioned 1-minute joyride. Rant over.
