The unusual incident occurred on the afternoon of Jun. 15 and led to an emergency response involving both the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Lianhe Zaobao reported.

Authorities have since launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case.

Incident Happened Near Lentor Avenue Exit

According to reports, the incident took place along the SLE towards Punggol, shortly after the Lentor Avenue exit.

The Singapore Police Force said it received a call for assistance at around 2:40pm. Preliminary information indicated that a man had exited a moving ambulance and entered the roadway, creating a dangerous situation for himself and other road users.

During the sequence of events, the man was struck by a car while running on the expressway.

Despite the collision, he remained conscious and was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical attention.

Man Arrested for Rash Act After Being Taken to Hospital

Police confirmed that the 61-year-old was arrested for a rash act after he was conveyed to hospital while conscious.

Under Singapore law, a rash act generally refers to behaviour that is carried out recklessly or without proper regard for the safety of others, potentially endangering lives or causing harm.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed why the man was initially inside the ambulance or what prompted him to jump out while it was in motion.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force also confirmed that it received a call for assistance at approximately 2:50pm and transported one person to the hospital.

Expressway Incidents Highlight Serious Safety Risks

Incidents involving pedestrians on expressways are extremely rare in Singapore due to the obvious dangers associated with fast-moving traffic.

Expressways are designed exclusively for vehicles travelling at higher speeds, leaving little reaction time for motorists if an unexpected obstacle suddenly appears.

Emergency vehicles such as ambulances are also equipped with safety protocols to ensure patients remain secure during transport. Jumping from a moving ambulance not only places the individual at significant risk but may also jeopardise the safety of paramedics, other motorists and road users.

While the exact circumstances remain unclear, the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable challenges emergency responders can face while carrying out their duties.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the man’s medical condition or the extent of any injuries sustained after being struck by the car.

Further updates are expected once police investigations are completed.
