A 60-year-old private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver was discovered dead inside his rental car at a car park in Bedok after his family had been unable to contact him for two days. The incident has prompted an ongoing police investigation, although authorities have indicated that foul play is not currently suspected.
Police said they were alerted to a case of an unnatural death at a car park located near Block 632 Bedok Reservoir Road at approximately 12:40pm. Upon arrival, officers found the man unresponsive inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics ,according to Shin Min Daily News.
The deceased was reportedly a driver working for ride-hailing platform Gojek. Family members, including his wife and niece, rushed to the location after learning about the discovery. According to reports, his wife was visibly distressed and was seen crying at the scene.
Family Became Concerned After He Failed To Return Home
The man’s 21-year-old niece shared that it was unusual for him to be away for an extended period without informing his family. She explained that he had left home for work at around 11pm and would normally return the following morning at about 9am to rest before heading out again.
However, he did not return home over the next two days, causing growing concern among relatives. After repeated attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful, the family decided to lodge a police report shortly after midnight. They also contacted the vehicle rental company that had supplied the car he was using for work.
Using GPS tracking technology installed in the vehicle, the rental company was able to determine its location, ultimately leading to the discovery at the Bedok car park. Family members revealed that the area held personal significance for the deceased, as it was a place he frequently visited during his younger years. They believe he may have stopped there to rest before his death.
Police Investigations Continue
Relatives described the man as someone who did not have any known serious medical conditions or financial troubles. He leaves behind two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom are already working adults.
At this stage, authorities have stated that preliminary findings do not point towards any criminal involvement. Investigations remain ongoing as officers work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident serves as a reminder of the demanding schedules many PHV drivers face while balancing long hours on the road. It also highlights the importance of maintaining regular communication with family members, particularly for individuals whose work requires overnight shifts or extended periods away from home.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities as investigations proceed.
