Mohamed Sufian Bin Mohamed Sabri pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt and was sentenced on June 16, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The incident took place on December 19, 2025, at around 5:55pm at U-Taste coffee shop located near Tampines MRT station.

According to court documents, both men were part of the same social circle and had been regularly meeting at the coffee shop with mutual friends since October 2025.

Argument Between Acquaintances Escalated Into Violence

A day before the stabbing, on December 18, the pair met with several friends at the coffee shop where they reportedly became involved in an argument for undisclosed reasons.

The disagreement was not resolved and both men left on bad terms.

The following evening, the 57-year-old victim was having a meal with another friend when he made eye contact with Sufian. Shortly afterwards, both men stepped outside the coffee shop onto a nearby pavement where another heated argument broke out.

The confrontation quickly turned physical.

During the altercation, Sufian pulled out a knife with a 13cm blade and repeatedly stabbed the victim in the back and forearm, causing serious injuries.

Victim Chased Attacker Despite Severe Injuries

After the attack, Sufian fled the scene and dropped the weapon when several of the victim’s friends emerged from the coffee shop.

Despite suffering multiple stab wounds, the injured man picked up the knife from the ground, tucked it into his shorts and attempted to chase after his attacker.

A passer-by who witnessed the incident immediately called the police.

The witness reported seeing a blood-covered man carrying a knife near a Money Max outlet and alerted authorities to a visible trail of blood.

Police officers arriving at the scene followed the blood trail towards Tampines MRT station, where they found the victim still bleeding heavily. An ambulance was immediately dispatched.

Paramedics later recovered the knife from the victim and handed it over as evidence to investigators.

Victim Sustained Internal Injuries

The victim was taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment.

Medical examinations revealed he suffered a 4cm stab wound to his abdomen and an 8cm wound on his arm.

The attack also caused internal injuries, including a punctured abdomen, minor internal bleeding, a 1.6cm liver laceration and a haematoma near his right kidney.

He remained hospitalised for four days before being discharged from further surgical follow-up.

Sufian was arrested approximately six hours later in the early hours of December 20, 2025.

Offence Committed During Remission Period

Court documents also revealed that Sufian was serving a remission order between October 4, 2025, and January 13, 2026.

Conditional remission allows inmates to be released early for good behaviour, provided they comply with strict conditions, including refraining from committing any new offences.

By carrying out the attack during this period, he breached the terms of his remission order.

The case serves as another reminder that violent disputes can escalate rapidly and result in severe legal consequences, especially when weapons are involved.
