Motorists who regularly use Exit 8B on the city-bound Central Expressway (CTE) towards Upper Serangoon Road will need to plan ahead, as the exit will be temporarily closed on seven separate nights between June and July.
According to the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the closure is necessary to facilitate bridge-launching works for a new pedestrian and cycling link that will span across the Pan Island Expressway (PIE).
The temporary closure will take place from 12am to 5am on the following dates:
- June 24 (Wednesday)
- June 26 (Friday)
- July 5 (Sunday)
- July 15 (Wednesday)
- July 17 (Friday)
- July 22 (Wednesday)
- July 24 (Friday)
The authorities clarified that the slip road connecting CTE Exit 8B to the Changi-bound PIE will remain open throughout the works.
Alternative Route Via Braddell Road
Drivers intending to head towards Upper Serangoon Road during the closure periods are advised to use Exit 10 via Braddell Road before continuing their journey.
Motorists are also encouraged to plan their routes in advance and pay close attention to traffic diversion signs and temporary barricades that will be placed in the affected areas.
The works form part of the larger Bishan-to-City Links project, which aims to improve walking and cycling connectivity between Potong Pasir and Bendemeer.
Part Of Ongoing Active Mobility Improvements
The new pedestrian-cum-cycling bridge is intended to make it easier and safer for residents to travel between neighbourhoods without relying solely on motor vehicles.
This is not the first traffic disruption associated with the project. In May, Exit 8A of the city-bound CTE was also temporarily closed to facilitate similar bridge-launching operations.
Authorities have advised motorists to factor in additional travelling time, especially those making early morning journeys during the affected dates.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert and follow all traffic instructions while passing through nearby areas.
