A Malaysian girl who disappeared from her home in Johor Bahru in 2019 has finally been found seven years later in Langkawi, where she is now married and raising a child.
The woman, who is now 21 years old, was located after her family tracked activity linked to her national identity card through a government welfare assistance programme.
According to local reports, her family used her MyKad number to check records under the MyKasih programme, a Malaysian initiative that provides cashless food assistance and educational support to eligible recipients.
The checks revealed that her identity card had recently been used to make purchases at several stores in Langkawi, giving her family a clue about her possible whereabouts.
Police Located Her At A Home In Langkawi
Based on information received from members of the public, police conducted an inspection at a residence in Langkawi at around 11pm on June 1.
Officers discovered a 21-year-old woman living at the home together with a young child.
Further investigations confirmed that she was the same person who had been listed as a missing individual since 2019.
Authorities said the woman admitted that she had left her family home in Johor Bahru years ago before eventually settling down in Langkawi.
She also claimed that she had married a foreign national, although her husband was not present during the inspection.
Police have since informed her family that she was found safe.
Father Passed Away During The Seven Years She Was Missing
According to reports, the woman’s disappearance had taken a heavy toll on her family over the years.
Her father reportedly passed away while she was still missing, while her mother’s health had deteriorated during the lengthy search for her.
It remains unclear why she left home initially or why she had not contacted her family throughout the seven-year period.
The case has attracted significant attention online, with many expressing relief that she was eventually found safe, while others questioned how she managed to remain untraced for such a long period despite official records still listing her as a missing person.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any further investigations will be conducted.
