MALE HAIR STYLIST @ ORCHARD CONFESS HE GOT HUGE SHARE OF ‘PIAK’ FROM CLIENTS

I’m a 37yo male hair stylist working at a high-end salon in Orchard. Been in the industry for more than a decade. You know the stereotype people always have about male hairstylists? Either we are super flamboyantly gay, or we are absolute players. Well, I’m straight, and let’s just say… the stereotype exists for a reason. I have gotten a huge share of “piak” (let’s keep it PG for Reddit compliance, but you know what I mean) straight from my client list.

People don’t realize how intimate a hair appointment actually is. It’s the ultimate loophole for physical touch. I am standing behind them, washing their hair, massaging their scalp, leaning in close to whisper over the sound of the hairdryer, blowing the hair off their neck. It’s literally a 2-hour sensory experience where I am making them look and feel beautiful. The chemistry builds insanely fast.

You’d be shocked at how many women treat the salon chair like a confession booth. They complain about their boring boyfriends, their husbands who don’t touch them anymore, or how stressed they are at their corporate jobs. I just listen, look them in the eye through the mirror, smile, and give them that premium attention.

The transition from the chair to the bed usually happens so naturally it’s scary. It always starts with a DM on Instagram after I post their “after” photo. “Omg thanks for today babe, love the balayage!” Then a bit of flirting, then a late-night drink after my shift ends at 9 PM.

Over the years, I’ve hooked up with tai tais, high-flying SIA stewardesses, legal professionals, and influencer-types. I’ve had quickies in the salon dispensary room after closing, stayed over at luxury condos in Newton while the husband was “on a business trip in Europe,” and had regular casual arrangements that lasted months.

Is it messy? Sometimes, real dangerous. I’ve had to subtly pass a client to my junior stylist before because her boyfriend suddenly decided to tag along for her haircut, and the tension was so thick you could cut it with my fabric shears.

But honestly? The thrill is a massive dopamine rush. I love my job, I love making people look good, and the fringe benefits… well, they keep me coming back to work every single day.

Go ahead and judge me, r/SG, but next time you see your girl coming back from an Orchard salon with a fresh blowout and a glowing smile, just know she might be paying for more than just the treatment.
