A confrontation between a lorry driver and a taxi driver near Queen Street escalated into a physical altercation on Friday afternoon, resulting in one individual being conveyed to hospital.
Videos circulating on social media captured portions of the incident, which reportedly took place along Ban San Street, close to the Queen Street area. Witnesses said the dispute unfolded sometime between 4pm and 5pm on June 26.
The footage has since attracted significant attention online, with many netizens questioning what led to the confrontation between the two motorists.
Videos Capture Heated Exchange
In one of the videos, a man dressed in a grey shirt can be seen standing beside a ComfortDelGro taxi. Both men appeared visibly upset as they exchanged words near the vehicle.
The man later walked towards a lorry parked in front of the taxi while the cabby returned to his driver’s seat. At that point, the situation appeared to have calmed briefly.
However, a second video showed the dispute reigniting moments later. As the taxi began moving off, the man in grey allegedly reached through the vehicle’s window and struck the driver.
The taxi driver then exited his vehicle, leading to a brief but intense exchange of punches between the two men in full view of passers-by.
Bystanders Step In To Stop Fight
During the scuffle, the man in grey appeared to land several blows to the taxi driver’s head. One of the punches reportedly caused the driver to stumble backwards into his vehicle.
The taxi driver was also seen retaliating during the confrontation, with footage showing him striking the other man before the pair were eventually separated.
Several members of the public quickly intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further. A worker believed to be from a nearby bus stop, together with other bystanders, stepped in and successfully broke up the fight.
A witness who was travelling on a bus at the nearby Queen Street Bus Terminal said he observed the incident from inside the vehicle and estimated that it occurred sometime between 4pm and 5pm.
One Person Conveyed To Tan Tock Seng Hospital
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that it was alerted to the incident at approximately 4.15pm on June 26.
Following the altercation, one person was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for medical attention. The extent of the individual’s injuries has not been disclosed.
The circumstances leading to the dispute remain unclear. It is also not known whether any police reports have been lodged in relation to the incident.
