Tampines Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Victim With Airsoft Gun, Weapons Cache Found In Flat

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly shooting another man with an airsoft gun in Tampines, leaving the victim injured and prompting police to uncover a cache of weapons and prohibited items inside his home.

According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), officers received a call for assistance at Tampines Street 81 at about 7.36pm on 30 June. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 37-year-old man had allegedly been shot with an airsoft gun during the incident.

The victim suffered injuries to his ear and forehead.

Suspect Tracked Down Through Police Cameras

Following investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division identified the suspect with the aid of police cameras and CCTV footage.

The 38-year-old man was subsequently arrested later the same day.

Police later conducted a search of the suspect’s residential unit and discovered what they described as a substantial cache of weapons and prohibited items.

Among the items seized were several airsoft guns, ammunition, airsoft gun components, a knuckle duster and a suspected stun device.

Additional Charges Possible

The suspect is scheduled to be charged in court on 1 July for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.

SPF added that investigations are ongoing and the man may face additional charges under the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021 as well as other provisions under the Penal Code.

Police Reiterate Zero-Tolerance Approach

The police stressed that they take a firm stance against violence and unlawful possession of weapons.

Authorities warned that individuals who use dangerous items to cause harm or possess prohibited weapons will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The case remains under investigation.
