Residents in Thailand’s Khon Kaen province received an unexpected shock in the early hours of Thursday morning after a man was discovered standing motionless inside a large water storage tank.
The bizarre incident initially sparked fears of a possible death when workers at a property spotted the unmoving figure inside a 500-litre water tank located behind a residential building. Alarmed by the sight, they immediately contacted the property owner.
The owner, 44-year-old Montakan, rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call from one of her employees. Upon arrival, she found the man standing inside the tank without any visible signs of movement, leading witnesses to fear the worst.
Emergency Response Triggered by Unusual Discovery
According to local reports, Montakan repeatedly called out to the man. After several attempts, he slowly moved his head, confirming that he was still alive. Relieved but confused by the situation, she promptly contacted the police.
Authorities from Khon Kaen City Police Station received the report at around 6am and dispatched rescue personnel to the property. Rescue workers attempted to communicate with the man but received little response.
To safely remove him, rescuers drained the water from the tank and carefully tilted it, allowing the man to climb out. Fortunately, he did not appear to have suffered any serious injuries.
Party Night Ends in Water Tank Nap
Once he regained full awareness, the man explained how he had ended up in such an unusual location. He identified himself as a food delivery rider who had attended a party the previous evening.
According to his account, he consumed a significant amount of alcohol before deciding to head home. However, after parking his motorcycle at the entrance of a nearby alley, he became heavily disoriented.
Rather than making it home, he reportedly wandered through the neighbourhood, climbed over a fence, opened the lid of the water tank and somehow managed to move it beside a dormitory wall before climbing inside.
Walks Away as If Nothing Happened
The man then proceeded to fall asleep while standing upright inside the tank, remaining there until workers discovered him the following morning.
After being rescued and recovering from his intoxicated state, the rider reportedly walked to the roadside, mounted his motorcycle and left the area without further incident.
While the situation ended without injury, the strange episode quickly attracted attention online, with many social media users expressing disbelief that someone could not only climb into a water tank while drunk but also sleep standing up for several hours.
For residents and rescue personnel, however, the incident served as a reminder that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations — even if this particular story ended with nothing more than confusion, embarrassment and an unforgettable hangover.
