Two unidentified foreign men were found brutally dismembered and abandoned in a remote area near the Cambodian border city of Poipet, prompting a major police investigation.
The gruesome discovery was made after villagers noticed a strong foul odour coming from a wooded area on the outskirts of the city. Their attention was further drawn when they spotted a stray dog dragging a black rubbish bag out from the undergrowth.
When residents approached and inspected the bag, they were horrified to find human remains inside, including two severed heads. Authorities were immediately alerted.
Police officers who arrived at the scene subsequently uncovered several more black plastic bags scattered throughout the forested area. The additional bags reportedly contained the remaining body parts of the two victims.
Victims Believed To Be Foreign Nationals
According to preliminary investigations, both victims were male and are believed to be foreign nationals.
Investigators noted that the men had fair complexions and tattoos on their bodies. No identification documents were recovered from the scene, making it difficult to immediately establish their identities.
Police believe the victims had been dead for approximately three to four days before their remains were discovered. Authorities suspect the bodies were dismembered elsewhere before being transported to the remote location and discarded.
The brutal nature of the crime has shocked local residents and raised concerns about organised criminal activity in the area.
Possible Link To Earlier Abduction Case
Investigators are also examining whether the killings could be connected to an earlier incident involving foreign nationals.
Reports indicate that on June 29, authorities received information regarding an alleged abduction in Poipet, where one foreigner was reportedly forced into a vehicle by another foreign national.
Police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related but have stated that all possible leads are being explored.
The discovery has triggered a large-scale investigation, with officers working to identify the victims and determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Authorities Launch Manhunt
Law enforcement agencies are now focusing on tracing those responsible for the killings.
Forensic teams have been deployed to analyse the remains and collect evidence from the scene. Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements from residents living near the area where the bodies were found.
Officials have appealed to members of the public who may have information about missing foreign nationals or suspicious activities in the region to come forward.
As of publication, no arrests have been announced and the identities of the victims remain unknown.
The case has attracted widespread attention in Cambodia due to the exceptionally violent nature of the crime, with authorities pledging to bring those responsible to justice.
