A tragic shooting in Bangkok has left one man dead and a woman fighting for her life, after a Thai soldier allegedly opened fire on his former partner and her new boyfriend in what authorities believe was a jealousy-driven attack.

The incident unfolded on the evening of July 12 in the Prawet district, where police were called to a residential area following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 19-year-old man inside a parked car with fatal gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

A 36-year-old woman, identified as the suspect’s ex-wife, was also found at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, with wounds to her chest, shoulder and abdomen.

Victim’s Final Moments Revealed by Family

According to the victim’s mother, the young couple had just returned home from work at a nearby factory when the suspect appeared at the residence. The former husband reportedly arrived in a black sedan as the couple were parking their vehicle.

Sensing danger, the victim contacted his mother for advice. She reportedly told him to remain inside the car for safety. Moments later, gunshots rang out.

When she reached the scene, she found her son unresponsive, while the woman was severely injured nearby. The shocking turn of events has left the family devastated, with the mother recounting the final moments leading up to the fatal encounter.

Suspect Identified as Military Personnel

Police later identified the suspect as a 37-year-old Sergeant Major First Class. Following the incident, he fled the scene but later surrendered himself at a police station in Ratchaburi province.

He handed over a 9mm Glock pistol believed to have been used in the attack. During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to carrying out the shooting, claiming he acted out of jealousy after seeing his ex-wife with another man.

Authorities confirmed that the couple had been divorced for approximately two years, and there had been no prior reports of harassment or confrontation following their separation.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The suspect is expected to be transferred back to Bangkok for further investigation and formal charges. Police have yet to confirm the exact charges he will face, but the case is likely to involve serious offences including murder and attempted murder.

The employer of both victims stated that he had previously met the accused during the couple’s marriage and had not observed any aggressive behaviour at the time. This has raised further questions about what may have triggered such a violent escalation.

As investigations continue, the case has reignited concerns about domestic disputes turning deadly, particularly when firearms are involved. Authorities are expected to examine the suspect’s background, mental state, and access to weapons as part of ongoing proceedings.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of how unresolved personal conflicts can spiral into violence, with devastating consequences for families and communities alike.
