Grab Driver Suspended After Passenger Shares Video Of Uncomfortable Remarks During Ride

A Singaporean woman has sparked widespread discussion online after sharing a video of an uncomfortable interaction she allegedly experienced with a Grab driver during a recent ride.

Content creator Sarah Lim posted a clip on TikTok documenting part of the conversation, claiming the driver made several personal remarks about her appearance, ethnicity and background. The video quickly gained traction on social media, attracting more than 300,000 views within a short period.

According to Lim, she was travelling to a work-related video shoot when what initially appeared to be casual conversation began making her increasingly uneasy. She explained that she decided to discreetly record the exchange as a precaution in case she later needed evidence to support a formal complaint.

Comments About Appearance And Ethnicity Raise Concerns

Lim alleged that before she began recording, the driver had already made several comments that she found inappropriate, including remarks suggesting she had “made his day” and describing her as “interesting”.

During the recorded portion of the conversation, the driver allegedly commented on her complexion, telling her that she had unusually attractive tanned skin for a Chinese woman. He then proceeded to ask about her dialect background, including whether she was Teochew or Hokkien.

When Lim mentioned that she had Cantonese heritage, the driver reportedly responded by saying he loved Cantonese women because they were good-looking. He also allegedly described Cantonese as a “sexy language” to learn.

The discussion later shifted to questions about Lim’s age and whether she was still a student, further contributing to her discomfort during the journey.

Grab Responds And Launches Investigation

Following the viral post, Grab Singapore publicly responded in the comments section of Lim’s TikTok video, apologising for the experience she described.

The company stated that no passenger should feel unsafe or uncomfortable while using its platform and assured Lim that the matter was being reviewed by its driver management team.

Grab also said that members of its safety team would be reaching out to gather more information and provide support where necessary.

In a statement responding to media queries, a Grab spokesperson reiterated that every passenger deserves to be treated with respect and that the company maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards behaviour that causes riders to feel unsafe.

Driver Temporarily Suspended

Grab confirmed that it has contacted the passenger and has temporarily suspended the driver involved while investigations are ongoing.

The ride-hailing company stressed that passenger safety remains a top priority and said appropriate action would be taken following the outcome of its review.

The incident has reignited conversations online about professional boundaries between drivers and passengers, with many social media users sharing their own experiences and opinions on what constitutes acceptable conversation during private-hire rides.

As investigations continue, Grab said it remains committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for both passengers and drivers across its platform.
