PMD Riders Caught Speeding Over 80KM/H Through KPE Tunnel, Triggers Speed Camera

A pair of riders have drawn criticism online after they were allegedly seen speeding through the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel on a personal mobility device (PMD), with some netizens claiming they were travelling fast enough to trigger a speed camera.

Dashcam footage shared on Facebook page SGRV Admin showed two individuals riding together on a single PMD inside the tunnel at around 7.15pm on July 12. The video quickly circulated online, sparking concerns over road safety and the reckless use of personal mobility devices.

In the footage, the PMD appears to be travelling at a high speed alongside other vehicles on the expressway. At one point, a bright flash can be seen, leading many viewers to speculate that the riders may have activated a speed enforcement camera.

Riders Seen Without Helmets

The two riders were also seen without helmets despite allegedly travelling at a speed far beyond what PMDs are legally allowed to achieve.

The KPE tunnel carries a speed limit of 80km/h across most sections. Based on the video, some online commenters suggested the PMD may have exceeded that limit, although the exact speed could not be independently verified.

Many social media users expressed disbelief at the incident, questioning how a personal mobility device could travel at such speeds while carrying two people.

Several commenters also highlighted the potential danger posed not only to the riders themselves but also to motorists sharing the road.

PMDs Prohibited On Roads And Expressways

Under Land Transport Authority (LTA) regulations, personal mobility devices are not allowed on roads, including expressways and road tunnels.

PMDs are generally restricted to designated paths and must not exceed a maximum speed of 25km/h when in use.

Riding a PMD on an expressway is considered a serious offence due to the significant safety risks involved. Expressways are designed for motor vehicles travelling at much higher speeds, creating a dangerous environment for slower and less protected road users.

The viral video has reignited discussions about irresponsible PMD usage in Singapore, with many calling for stricter enforcement against those who flout existing regulations.

Authorities have not publicly commented on the incident at the time of writing.
