Man allegedly forced into car in Johor Bahru as police investigate viral abduction video
A viral video showing a man being forcibly pushed into a car in Johor Bahru has prompted an investigation by Malaysian police.
The incident allegedly took place in Taman Impian Emas in Skudai at around 6pm on July 13. Footage circulating on social media captured three men surrounding another man before forcing him into a grey Proton Waja.
Witnesses at the scene could be heard shouting for someone to call the police as the man, who was carrying a black backpack, appeared to resist being bundled into the vehicle. Despite several bystanders witnessing the incident, no one was seen physically stepping in, reportedly due to fears for their own safety.
Victim reportedly works in Singapore
According to local Chinese-language media reports, the victim is believed to be a 26-year-old Malaysian Chinese man employed in Singapore.
The reports claimed that he had withdrawn cash from an ATM shortly before the alleged abduction. He was reportedly followed by three suspects before being forced into the waiting car.
The same reports alleged that the suspects robbed the victim of both his cash and mobile phone during the ordeal.
After the robbery, the man was allegedly abandoned around 20km away in Taman Molek. A passer-by reportedly came to his aid and drove him home safely.
Police confirm investigation
Johor Bahru North police have confirmed that a police report has been lodged regarding the incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the case, including the identities of those involved and the motive behind the alleged attack.
At the time of writing, police have not announced any arrests or disclosed whether the suspects have been identified.
The viral video has generated widespread discussion online, with many social media users expressing concern over the apparent brazenness of the incident and questioning public safety in the area.
Police have urged anyone with information or additional footage that may assist investigations to come forward.
