Need some sanity check here because I feel like I’m genuinely losing my damn mind right now.
So last night, my (27F) boyfriend (29M) of 1.5 years and I were chilling at home doing our monthly expense tracking and budgeting together. Everything was going fine until I noticed a recurring $80+ charge every single month on his credit card statement under Singtel.
Now, I know for a fact he uses StarHub for his own personal mobile line and home broadband. So out of pure curiosity, I asked him, “Babe, why are you paying Singtel every month? Is it your family’s line or what?”
He froze for like two solid seconds, looked super uncomfortable, and then dropped this absolute bomb on me:
“Err… actually it’s my ex’s line. I signed a 2-year contract for her 3 years ago under my name.”
I was literally stunned like vegetable. I asked him why on earth he is STILL paying for her bill when they broke up almost 2 years ago, and we have been together for 1.5 years?!
You know what this guy had the cheek to tell me?
He said: “Habit already lah. The GIRO just auto-deducts every month, so I just let it run lor. If I cancel now, very troublesome and awkward to text her to transfer ownership back.”
… WHAT?! 😭
Walao eh, $80+ a month for nearly two years is almost $2,000!! He is literally funding his ex-girlfriend’s unlimited 5G plan so she can stream TikTok smoothly every day, while he is here counting pennies with me whenever we go eat at the hawker centre?! Last week I asked him if we could upgrade to the $5.50 chicken rice with extra meat and he told me must save money for BTO. BUT HE CAN SPONSOR HIS EX-GF FOR FREE?!
When I got upset, he told me I was overreacting and “overthinking things”. He claims they haven’t even spoken in months and it’s purely a “financial oversight and laziness issue”, not because he still has feelings for her. He even said, “It’s just $80, don’t make it a big deal can or not?”
Sibei ridiculous! I told him to call Singtel immediately tomorrow morning to terminate the line or force her to transfer it, but he keeps procrastinating and saying “let me find a good time to msg her gently.”
Am I being unreasonable here, or is my boyfriend a top-tier simping clown? How can someone be so “lazy” that they passively give their ex free phone service for TWO YEARS?! What would you guys do in this situation?
