A 30-year-old man has died following a serious traffic accident involving a car and a lorry along the Central Expressway (CTE) during the early hours of Monday, 27 July.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:45am. The collision occurred on the stretch of the CTE heading towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE), prompting a major response from the authorities.
According to the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic after sustaining fatal injuries in the crash.
Three Others Taken To Tan Tock Seng Hospital
Apart from the deceased driver, three other individuals were injured and transported to Tan Tock Seng Hospital while conscious.
They included the 37-year-old driver of the lorry, his 38-year-old male passenger, and a 24-year-old road worker who was carrying out maintenance works in the vicinity when the accident occurred.
The circumstances leading to the collision have not yet been established, and police investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fatal crash.
BMW Believed To Be Involved
Photographs circulating on social media showed a heavily damaged black car believed to be a BMW. The vehicle appeared to have suffered extensive impact damage, with its front section almost completely destroyed.
Images from the scene also showed debris scattered across multiple lanes of the expressway, indicating the force of the collision. The aftermath left several lanes obstructed as emergency personnel worked to secure the area and assist those involved.
Motorists travelling along the CTE during the morning reported significant traffic disruption. Some road users commented online that as many as four lanes were temporarily blocked or closed while recovery operations were in progress.
Police Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released further details on what may have caused the collision or whether any offences are suspected at this stage.
The condition of the three injured individuals has also not been disclosed beyond confirmation that they were conscious when conveyed to hospital.
The fatal accident adds to a series of serious road incidents reported in Singapore in recent months. Police are continuing their investigations, and anyone with information that may assist may be contacted as part of the inquiry.
