70-Year-Old Man Dies After Early Morning Fire At Circuit Road HDB Flat

A 70-year-old man has died after a fire broke out inside a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat at Block 39 Circuit Road in the early hours of Jul. 28.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at about 2:05am and found thick black smoke billowing from a ninth-floor unit upon arrival.

Firefighters forced their way into the flat before quickly bringing the blaze under control.

Firefighters Found Man Unresponsive Inside Flat

According to SCDF, the fire involved items in the living room of the unit.

During firefighting operations, firefighters discovered an unresponsive man inside the living room.

He was immediately carried out of the flat, where SCDF personnel began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene.

The 70-year-old was then taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital.

Police said they were alerted to the fire at around 2am.

Victim Later Succumbed To Injuries

The man later died in hospital despite emergency medical efforts.

As a precautionary measure, SCDF and the police evacuated approximately 80 residents from the affected block while the incident was being brought under control.

No other injuries were reported.

Cause Of Fire Under Investigation

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the blaze.

SCDF said investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, while the police are also conducting investigations into the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
