A vehicle caught fire in the basement car park of a condominium in Yishun on the evening of Jul. 29, prompting an emergency response and the evacuation of residents.
The incident occurred at around 8:20pm at Orchid Park Condominium along Yishun Street 81.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said firefighters responded to the blaze and extinguished it using two water jets.
One person suffered smoke inhalation
One person was taken to Singapore General Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation during the incident.
No other serious injuries were reported.
Photos shared on social media showed extensive fire damage inside the basement car park, with blackened walls and at least one vehicle completely destroyed by the flames.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and police officers, were seen at the scene as they brought the fire under control.
Residents evacuated safely
Nee Soon GRC Member of Parliament Lee Hui Ying said in a Facebook post that residents were evacuated from the condominium while emergency crews handled the incident.
She noted that residents remained calm throughout the evacuation and expressed relief that there were no serious injuries.
Lee also thanked the Singapore Civil Defence Force and other emergency responders for their swift response to the fire.
Community praised for helping one another
The MP also commended a police officer and a resident who stepped forward to assist during the emergency.
She added that it was encouraging to see neighbours looking out for one another during the incident.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
