21 Y.O Singaporean Man Arrested After Pulling Out 40CM Knife During Dispute @ Selegie Road

A 21-year-old man is set to face court after allegedly threatening three people with a 40cm knife during an early morning dispute along Selegie Road.

The incident reportedly took place at around 4:48am on Jul. 27, when the Singapore Police Force received a report of a disagreement involving a man believed to be carrying what was initially described as a rod-like object.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the object was allegedly a 40cm knife, which the suspect had concealed behind his shirt before approaching three individuals involved in the confrontation.

Knife Allegedly Drawn During Confrontation

According to police, the man allegedly produced the knife during the dispute and brandished it at the group before leaving the area shortly afterwards.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Officers later identified the suspect through extensive ground investigations and the use of police camera footage. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

Police also recovered the knife after determining that it had been discarded along Middle Road.

Charged Under Offensive Weapons Law

The 21-year-old will be charged in court on Aug. 1 with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

If convicted, the offence carries a maximum jail sentence of three years, along with a mandatory minimum of six strokes of the cane.

The police stressed that they take incidents involving offensive weapons seriously, particularly when they endanger members of the public.

Police Warn Against Carrying Offensive Weapons

In a statement, the Singapore Police Force reiterated that acts involving weapons in public places pose significant risks to public safety and will be dealt with firmly.

Authorities emphasised that they will continue taking decisive action against individuals who blatantly disregard the law and threaten the safety of others.

Investigations into the incident have concluded with the suspect now expected to answer the charge in court.
