S’pore man, 34, injured after alleged self-inflicted stabbing at Clementi, bystander disarms him
A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital after he allegedly injured himself with a knife at a public area in Clementi on the afternoon of Aug. 10.
The incident took place at Block 441B Clementi Avenue 3 at around 12.20pm, according to the Singapore Police Force.
Photos circulating online showed a section of the area cordoned off with police tape. Bloodstains could also reportedly be seen on the ground, while police officers were photographed speaking with people nearby.
Bystander stepped in before police arrived
According to the police, officers found the 34-year-old man conscious when they arrived at the scene. He had sustained injuries believed to have been self-inflicted.
A 56-year-old man who happened to be at the scene also became involved in the incident.
The member of the public reportedly managed to grab the knife away from the 34-year-old and disarm him before police officers arrived.
The 56-year-old did not suffer any injuries during the incident. However, he was subsequently taken to hospital while conscious as a precaution.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that it had received a call for assistance regarding the incident.
Two men taken to different hospitals
The 34-year-old was conveyed to the National University Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.
The 56-year-old was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for further assessment.
Photos shared on social media also appeared to show workers cleaning the affected area after the incident.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
